Atwater Village Coyote: a Community Conversation
Understanding What Happened and Preventing Future Tragedies
Tuesday, October 20 6:30 PM on Zoom
Join coyote intervention specialists, Rebecca Dmytryk (Wildlife Emergency Services / Humane Wildlife Control Inc.) and Sam Ramirez (Humane Pest Control Inc.), along with special guest speakers, for an open community conversation about the recent events involving Wiley, the Atwater Village coyote.
This is not a lecture, but an opportunity to share information, examine the science behind coyote behavior, separate facts from misconceptions, and discuss what went wrong.
Most importantly, we'll explore what needs to change - from community education and early intervention to enforcement of existing wildlife laws and agency accountability. How can we better protect our communities and our wildlife, and prevent another tragedy like this?
We welcome your questions, concerns, and ideas as we work toward meaningful solutions.

We highly recommend watching Coyote-Smart California before the meeting to gain a foundational understanding of coyote ecology, behavior, and effective safety strategies.
